Ajna Chakra is thought to be the seat of inner vision, dreams, gifts of clairvoyance, wisdom, and extra sensorial perception, visualization, receiving inspiration. Ajna Controls the pineal or pituitary gland, forehead, temples and carotid plexus.
The Element of enlightenment is represented by the two petals of lotus flower, like wings of each side of a circle, within which is a downward-pointing triangle, and within it the Itara-linga with the seed mantra Om.
The presiding deity is Ardhanarishvara, the half-male, half-female Shiva-Shakti, symbolic of basic negative and positive polarity; the right side is male and the left side, female. This form of duality, become equalized in Sarasvati, leaving a state of pure music and neutrality. Ida (Ganga, feminin, lunar) and Pingala (Jamuna, masculin, solar) nerve energies separate from this brings the sense of oneness and of unity with the cosmic laws that appear in the plane of austerity. They then again separate, running into the left and right nostrils.
The petals symbolize our two eyes each side of the Third Eye. The two physical eyes see the past and the present, while the third eye reveals the insight of the future. The two sides of the brain are working in harmony and transcending physical limitations. The two worlds of reality-manifest and no manifest are represented by the light.
Our physical eyes are the tools with which perceive tangibles, while the Sixth Chakra –The “Third Eye” – above and between the eyebrows offers the ability to intuit things for which we have no concrete evidence. It is the map that our vehicle uses to get to where it needs to go. The Third Eye Chakra is a physical tool reminding us that everything we see, hear, smell, touch, or taste started as an inner vision or “in-sight”.
